If a defendant is found guilty, they will usually appear in the Magistrates Court first. This court will usually deal with a range of offences including simply offences such as driving offences and more serious offences (indictable offences) such as burglary and assault. The District Court deals with serious criminal offences such as armed robbery, sexual assault and dangerous driving causing death. The Supreme Court is the highest of the Queensland courts and comprises of the trial division (dealing with the most serious offences) and Court of Appeal.
